The purpose of this qualification is to prepare learners for employment in a culinary business or to complement an existing position involving food handling in a low-risk capacity. This may include wait staff, health care workers, kitchen porters, and stock/warehouse personnel. The qualification can be taken as a standalone course or as part of a larger training programme, and there is one mandatory subject to complete.

This qualification can be typically delivered as a half day course (4 hours).

This qualification has one mandatory unit with four learning outcomes:
• Food Safety Awareness

Through any Highfield approved training centre.

Learners successfully completing this qualification may wish to progress onto further qualifications, such as:
• Highfield Level 2 International Award in Food Safety
• Highfield Level 2 Award in Food Safety in Catering (RQF)


What next?

It is assessed by a multiple-choice examination, where the learner must answer at least 9 out of 15 questions correctly (60%). If learners answer 12 (80%) or more questions correctly, they will achieve a Distinction. The examination will take a maximum of 30 minutes to complete.
